THE Websters were the toast of Hepworth.

Matt and Gary Webster were on target as Hepworth United broke their home hoodoo in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Challenge Cup.

The Holme Valley side from Divsion I of the District League, who were previously placed in the Junior Challenge Trophy, came from a goal down to beat Parramore Sports 3-1.

Some slick passing by the visitors early on caused Hepworth coach Simon Kenworthy plenty of problems and his side were behind after only 10 minutes when keeper Daniel Armitage was left one-one-one and unable to stop Parramore’s centre forward.

Undeterred, Hepworth pushed forward and they were rewarded with an equaliser on 25 minutes, after a corner had been cleared.

James Earnshaw collected the ball and dinked in a cross to the back post where Gary Webster was lurking to glide between defenders and score with a firm downward header.

Hepworth maintained the pressure and Matt Earnshaw went close with a header before James, wriggling his way into the box, was fouled for a penalty on 36 minutes. Unfortunately, he fired the spot kick high over the bar.

Chances came and went for Hepworth at the start of the second half, with Matt Earnshaw, James and Benji Taylor all going close while, at the back, Will Kilner and Matthew Sanderson were very solid and Jamie Vince and Duane Short patrolled the midfield area in front.

On the hour, Hepworth got the breakthrough they deserved when Matt Webster sped into attack. He supplied James Earnshaw and continued his run, so when the keeper could only parry the resulting driven cross, Webster was on hand to blast the ball high into the roof of the net.

Parramore again raised their game, but Hepworth refused to wilt and, with only a few minutes remaining they sealed the victory.

The final goal came from a James Earnshaw break and, after he’d been driven wide, Matt Webster steamed into the area to grab his second of the game.

The teams and three match officials warmly shook hands at the end of what was a hugely entertaining tie.

Heywood Irish and Newsome have shared the First Division title over the past three years but met this time with both struggling for form – Heywood coming out on top 3-1.

It was a midfield deadlock until Matt Jaggar fired Heywood ahead on 16 minutes from a Billy Callaghan cross.

Heywood continued to hold sway, despite stand-in keeper Tony Scally foiling a few Newsome attacks, but it wasn’t until two minutes into the second half that they scored again – Callaghan releasing Tom Maher to provide a cross for Darren Henighan to head powerfully into the corner of the net.

Lee Maturine inspired a Newsome fightback which put Heywood under pressure and they managed to pull a goal back with 24 minutes left, Neil Robshaw rifling a low shot past Scally.

Newsome then thought they’d grabbed an equaliser when Anthony Haigh found the net on 75, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Newsome strongly contested the decision and it seemed to knock them out of their stride.

With five minutes left, their feat was sealed when Henighan chased a clearance and managed to nick the ball past the keeper.

In Division II, Mount earned three points in a 2-1 win over Westend.

Not allowing Westend to settle, Mount’s James Wood opened the scoring from wide out and Matt Nicholson slid in to extend the lead after a mazy run and cross by Paul Laycock.

The game became more even after that, but it wasn’t until 77 minutes that Westend scored.
