DIVISION II leaders Walpole Community have lost their unbeaten record in a major shock.

They were the last undefeated team in the Fell Promotions Kirklees Sunday League but, in their Inter-divisional fixture against Division I basement side Wellington A, they went down 4-1.

Doran Jordan gave Walpole the lead, but Wellington hit back with a couple of goals by Alex Pearson and, by half time, were 3-1 ahead courtesy of a screamer from Rob Mitchell.

Walpole piled on the pressure in the second half, but some strong defending by the Wellington defence and some good goalkeeping kept them out.

As the final whistle approached, Wellington broke away and Pearson finished off a flowing move with his hat trick goal.

In the Division I clash of the ‘big boys,’ Pak Rangers just about shaded the game against Black Bull 3-2.

Brighton Mugadza (pen), Walsh and Simpson notched for Rangers, with Haigh and Fulton for Bull.

Leaders Waterloo increased their lead to seven points after beating mid-table Inter Athletic 3-1. Riley, Sylvester and Mitchell grabbed Waterloo’s goals.

In Division II, Helion closed the gap on Walpole to 10 points (but have three games in hand) with a 12-0 thrashing of bottom side Wellington B.

On target for Helion were Hall (4), Dearnley (3), Stephenson (2), Clough, Reilly and Kaye.

Dalton continued their improvement with a positive result – beating Huddersfield Irish 3-1.

McDermott scored for Irish while, in their third win of the season, leading scorer Jamie Hartley bagged a double to take his tally to 12 for the season and Paul Kenyon got the other for Dalton. Woolpack’s overdue good result was achieved against Meltham Victoria Park 3-1, Tindal scored Meltham’s goal while Wayne Conroy (2) and Shane Wood notched for the winners.
