GOLCAR CON went through to the semi-finals of the District FA Sunday Challenge Cup with a 3-0 win over KSL Division II side Barr Street.

Strikes by Tom McCreadie, Martin Allison and John Conheeney sealed the success at Longfield Avenue.

Huddersfield IC, bidding for a hat trick of wins in the competition, were caused a lot of problems by current league leaders Rose and Crown at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

After only 10 minutes, Rose and Crown took the lead with a cracking shot from just inside the penalty area by midfield dynamo Jonny Beverley.

However, this did not last long as five minutes later Matthew Jaggar forced home an equaliser for Irish.

This score remained until the 40th minute when Irish were awarded a penalty, but Jaggar’s attempt was saved before Josh Williams popped up to make it 2-1 for Irish.

Early in the second half John Paul Flynn latched onto a through pass to score a typical poacher’s goal – and this proved to be the final goal of the game.

Rose and Crown tried their hardest to get back in the game even though Irish had to play out the last 15 minutes with only 10 men due to an injury.

Golcar Con and Hudds IC now play each other in the semi-final on Sunday, April 4.

In Division I, Marsh Lib continued their recent good run as they saw off the challenge of Kirkheaton 5-1.

A brace by Alex Towbell and a second hat trick in three matches by Nathan Inman did the damage, with Stewart Wacker replying for Kirkheaton.

Marsh Lib now move into third spot.

Pointless Leeds Road Wanderers continue to put up very brave performances even though they still cannot get on the points board, going down 8-1 to Lindley WMC who are now in second spot.

Paul Gledhill was the only scorer for the losers while Marlon Adams notched a hat trick, Danny Stocker a brace along with Richard Cowie, Courtney Allette and Kitson Gayle for the winners.
