TALENTED Town defender Andy Holdsworth is fit to play in tonight's first domestic friendly at Harrogate Town (7.30).

The 21-year-old limped out of the Copa de Ibiza last week suffering a twisted right ankle and was still in pain when Town returned on Saturday.

But intensive treatment from physio Lee Martin seems to have paid dividends, and Holdsworth - who was given the captain's armband against the Ibiza XI - is raring to go.

"It's encouraging that Andy has recovered so quickly because we thought at the time it was going to be a serious injury," said manager Peter Jackson.

"He did the right things over the weekend, though, in terms of ice and treatment, and he was able to join in with the lads yesterday, when he got a lot of movement back into the joint.

"Providing there is no adverse reaction, Andy should be okay to be involved tonight, although I won't be naming a squad until later."

Those who don't play tonight will travel to Rossendale tomorrow (7.30), while Andy Booth is being lined up to play the bulk of Friday's major friendly against Mansfield at Field Mill (7.00).

Booth travelled to Ibiza with an ankle injury suffered in a practice match and, while he took part in the first training session on the plastic pitch in San Antonio, he was ruled out of the remainder of the tour.

"Boothy did a lot of hard work on the training ground yesterday under Lee Martin's supervision and came through fine," added Jackson.

"He might play a bit tonight or tomorrow, but we are really looking towards Friday, when he'll be looking forward to getting into the thick of the action."

Nathan Clarke (thigh) and Tony Carss (ankle knock) are also making solid progress.

"The lads are now looking to build on what was an excellent trip to Ibiza," said Jackson.

"The facilities, the hotel and the staff we had around us were first-class, and I really can't praise them highly enough.

"All the lads enjoyed it, we played really well against Coventry, our fitness levels were tremendous - the best in the tournament - and now we want to progress in these friendlies this week."

Town midfielder Lee Fowler last night played for Grimsby in their 2-1 home friendly defeat by Sheffield Wednesday, and was today due to have talks with manager Russell Slade.

It has been reported that the Welsh Under 21 player is willing to take a pay cut in order to move to Blundell Park and cement regular League II club football.
