BENIK AFOBE and fellow loan ranger Danny Ward put the boot into Brighton – then insisted Huddersfield Town are ready to take advantage should League I promotion rivals Southampton slip up.
Arsenal starlet Afobe netted twice before Bolton winger Ward lashed home a last-minute goal to clinch the 3-2 Withdean win which kept Town level on 86 points with Saints.
It was a 10th victory in 13 games and a sixth in succession on the road.
But Town, who finish their regular-season fixtures at home to Brentford on Saturday, know if Southampton win either of their last two games (at Plymouth this afternoon and at home to Walsall on Saturday) Saints will go up.
It’s the play-offs in that case for Town, but 18-year-old Afobe insisted: “Never say never, because anything can happen in football.
“Southampton have got the advantage, but they are also under pressure to produce and they know we’re waiting in the wings.
“Whatever happens today, we want to beat Brentford and make it 25 league games unbeaten.
“If it’s not enough to win automatic promotion, then it will send us into the play-offs on a high, and wins like this one at Brighton give us huge confidence that we can come through those extra three matches if we need to.”
There will be no Huddersfield Town webchat today (Monday) however we will be hosting one from 12.30pm to 1.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday, May 3).
