THE 4-3-3 system worked well against Bournemouth, although we became exposed out wide. Should we have changed to 4-4-2 sooner? Chris, e-mail

Jacko says: I COULD possibly have changed it a little bit earlier, but no more than 10 minutes.

I was very pleased with the way things went in the first half and the way we started the second.

We didn't turn Bournemouth enough in the second half and get in behind them.

Having said that, if you hit good balls at Boothy, Pav and Luke, they will cause havoc in this division.

It's important that when things break down in that system that your strikers split and get out wide to do some defensive work.

What happened was that the Bourenmouth full-backs were pushing out, and we needed to get out there and stop them.

It can sometimes happen when you've got 4-3-3 against 4-4-2 that you can become overrun in midfield, so it's important then that the strikers tuck in and help.

WE seem vulnerable at the back, particularly from crosses. Where do you feel the problem is and are you planning to make any new signings? Terry Little, e-mail

Jacko says: I HAVE been trying for the last couple of weeks to bring in an extra defender.

It was a big blow to us when we knew Nathan Clarke was going to be out, because he is one of the best young central defenders in the country outside the Premiership.

Hopefully Nathan will be back in contention for the home game against Luton next week, but I have been trying to make a signing.

People think it's easy to just go out and get players, but it really isn't very straightforward at all.

I've approached a number of clubs over the last 10 days and, in fact, been very close to signing three separate players.

On each occasion, nothing has come of it at the final minute because of a change of heart or a switch in decision - and that's very, very frustrating as a manager.

I've still got options, however, so we'll see what happens next week.

The main thing is to get Nathan back. That will be a big boost.

On the subject of balls coming into the box, last season teams never looked like they were going to score against us but, this time, we have conceded too many times from corners.

That's been a big disappointment to me and it all comes down to a lack of concentration in the box.

Before matches, everyone is given a man to mark at set-pieces, so there is no hiding place if their opposite number comes through and scores.

Besides not keeping clean sheets, those lapses of concentration at the back have been most frustrating.

Going forward we look a very good side and, if only we could cut out the stupid mistakes at the back, I'm sure we would be fine.

WHY do we seem to fall to a back-post delivery week after week? Are you happy with Paul Rachubka's command of his area? Dave, Shepley

Jacko says: RABS did excellently for me last season and I was delighted he came back this time and signed for the club on a permanent basis.

He has had some good games this season, but I set my standards very high for Rabs and I've been disappointed with some of his displays - I'm not kidding myself on that score.

I know Rabs can play better and, most importantly, so does he.

Rabs is a quality keeper, but there is more to come from him.

On the goals conceded, and particularly those at the back post like the one which Bournemouth got last week, that should have been dealt with by Nat Brown.

Nat is doing well, but he's 6ft 3in while Hayter isn't even 6ft, so Nat should have had the advantage even though Hayter was jumping from behind him.

I was disappointed with that, because while it was a good cross from the goalline, we've got enough height and experience in the team to deal with things like that.

We can do better as a whole defensively and, as I've said, I've got complete faith in Rabs to do better.

DO you think Efe Sodje needs to work on his control and distribution? Toby, Honley

Jacko says: I KNEW when I signed Efe that those two things weren't his strong points.

Let's not lose sight of the fact, though, that he's played successfully at a higher level than this and that he's been to the World Cup finals, so he's got a lot of good qualities as well.

Efe is always liable to make a mistake, but I've always said that when he plays well, we win matches.

Two of the best performances I've seen from a defender were his debut for Town against Derby in the Carling Cup last season and then his display against Oxford away.

On both occasions he was absolutely outstanding - mopping up everything at the back against Derby, when they just couldn't get past him, and then dominating the whole game at Oxford.

Efe could be more consistent, but he has been an excellent signing who loves playing for this club.

WHY haven't Sodje and Clarke gelled at the back? Nicky, Huddersfield

Jacko says: I DISAGREE. Perhaps there has been some inconsistency, which is typical of the team, but they've also had their share of good performances.

You also have to remember that we've undergone a change of system after playing most of this term with three at the back, so they've also had to get used to that.

I think the two of them are well capable of helping us win games.

WITH injuries in midfield and at the back, did you consider Craig Armstrong as a signing? Dave, Liversedge

Jacko says: NO, I didn't think about bringing Craig Armstrong back to the club.

As I've said, I've been looking to bring in a defender without luck so far, largely because I think we can cope in midfield despite the loss of Tony Carss for a month.

Lee Fowler has come into the team, Adnan Ahmed is itching for a chance and now we've got Michael Collins emerging onto the first-team scene - he's in the squad at Walsall tomorrow.

We have been weakened on the left side of defence, which is why I've been keeping a look-out, but I have to say I was happy with Rob Edwards on his return to the side.

WHY does Jon Worthington not seem to be playing so well since he's been captain of the team? Nicky, Huddersfield

Jacko says: WORTHY can play better, but it's nothing to do with leading out the team.

His commitment, effort and desire are second to none and he relishes the challenge of being skipper.

I was a young captain myself at Bradford. It was a big honour and I know Worthy feels the same here.

Consistency is the thing. It's not just Worthy whose form has been a bit up and down, it's everyone.

Don't forget, too, that this is only his second full season at first-team level, so he's entitled to have the odd off day. His contribution overall, though, is tremendous.
