ANNA PICHRTOVA from Clayton-le-Moors Harriers broke the ladies' course record at the Meltham 10k.

With a superb time of 35min 49sec, Anna smashed the mark set by former England international Carol Haigh with a time of 36-24 in 1993.

Anna was actually leading the race until she was passed by eventual winner Saul Muldoon.

She received the £50 on offer for any male or female beating the course record as well as her prize for first lady in the race.

Former Holmfirth Harrier Muldoon, now a member at Stadium Runners, won the race in 35-43.

This year's winning time did not challenge the men's record, also set in 1993, by P Cuskin of 30-36.

In third place was Paul Smith (Altrincham AC) in 36-17.

The annual race, organised by Meltham Athletic Club, starts from Meltham Community Centre and follows an undulating course taking in South Crosland, Linthwaite and Holt Head before dropping back into Meltham on a long descent down Slaithwaite Road.

A total of 121 athletes took part in the 16th race, held in blustery but fine conditions.
