TOWN keeper Ian Bennett has today signed a one-year contract extension that will see him stay at the club until the summer of 2012.
The 39-year-old signed a one-year deal when he moved from Sheffield United last summer and his performances during his two stints in the side – making a total of 14 appearances – have earned him a new contract.
Town boss Lee Clark said: “Having played with Ian in the past I knew exactly what I was getting when I brought him to the club in the summer and he has done fantastically.
“His excellent performances are providing Alex Smithies with genuine competition and he has been a very positive influence in the changing room thanks to his experience and knowledge.
“It’s great news for the club that he has agreed to stay for another season.”
Bennett said: “When the club approached me about a possible contract extension I was delighted; my time here has been great and there is such a good atmosphere around the place.
“I would love to see out my playing career here and ideally I can do so in the Championship – every person in the dressing room wants that just like the management team, the staff and the board of directors.
“Town have exceeded all my expectations since I joined in the summer.”
