FORMER Town player and Wembley scoring hero Chris Billy has joined Halifax.

The 34-year-old, who has been with Carlisle United for the past three and a half years, has signed on loan until the end of the season.

Huddersfield-born Billy began his career with Town from 1991 to 1995, famously scoring the winner in the 1995 play-off final against Bristol Rovers beneath the twin towers.

He moved on to Plymouth, Notts County and Bury before signing at Brunton Park.

Gillingham, who visit Town on Saturday, have re-signed striker Nicky Southall from Nottingham Forest.

Known as Trigger, Southall is starting his third term at Priestfield and he seems certain to start against Peter Jackson's side at the Galpharm.

Northampton have signed highly-rated Gretna striker Kenny Deuchar.

The 26-year-old has netted 66 goals in 82 starts for Gretna.
