Full time: Birmingham City 0-2 Huddersfield Town

Full time

The first win of the David Wagner era! Goals from Joe Lolley and Nahki Wells seal all three points.

All the reaction to come!

93. Not much to write about in these stoppage time minutes. Huddersfield being very professional, Birmingham unable to find a way through. Steer makes a low grab at his near post and Town are nearly there now.

Six minutes of added time

90. SIX minutes of added time for the Terriers to see out here. Few injuries and a few bookings here have added up to that figure. A clean sheet would be most welcome for David Wagner.

Miller time

88. Final Town change and it’s goalscorer Nahki Wells who is replaced by Ishmael Miller.

87. Huddersfield Town supporters enjoying themselves now, singing Birmingham are “worse than Aston Villa”.

However, Birmingham have the ball and are trying to panic Town here. A couple of free kicks have done in their favour here.

Wagner serenaded

The away end is now in fine voice singing for the boss. It’s been a fine performance - five minutes of normal time to see this out now.

The clincher?

82. That looks like it might be enough for David Wagner’s first points and first win. The home fans are starting to leave now after that goal. Wells scored it but the praise really must go to Sean Scannell, who was strong and persistant and went straight past the full back leaving him for dust before laying the ball on a plate for Wells.

Wells scores!

GOALLLL!! THERE IT IS!!

Nahki Wells gets the second! He taps in from close range after Sean Scannell did some fantastic work down the right. 2-0!

SAVE!

77. That is a great save from Steer who got a block in after Jonathan Spector looked certain to score. It was close to him but a great reaction stop from the young keeper to preserve the slender lead.

Deano

He’s a big miss I agree, but is that the Wagner way?

Subs

73. The natives are restless. Boos abound as there is another stoppage.

I’m afraid to say it’s for Dean Whitehead, who has to come off for Kyle Dempsey.

Birmingham make their own change, with Andrew Shinnie coming on for Demarai Gray.

71. Whitehead is back on! I can hear the sighs of relief from here.

In other news, Birmingham have tje ball in the net but the whistle had gone so long ago it was practically half time.

68. Stoppage in play as Dean Whitehead receives treatment in the area. Birmingham fans are furious as they wanted penalty but the free kick has gone in Dean’s favour. He’s being helped to the sidelines here but he’s looking ok to continue at the moment..

67. For all the talk of possession play, attacking football and attractive qualities, Town have been excellent in defence so far today. Hacking away when needed, a calm pass out when there is a chance. Pushing and harrying.

However, at 1-0 it’s all rather precarious. A second goal would be very welcome.

Better than Klopp?

That is the chant from the away end

Town change

61. Boos for goalscorer Joe Lolley - who I’m sure will relish every single one! as he comes off for Muzzy Carayol.

He’s being called all sorts of names from the home stands but I’m sure he won’t mind a bit

Double change for Birmingham

60. Screams from the Birmingham faithful here for a pass back, but the referee is correct to point to his knee area. Anything but the foot and Jed Steer can pick the ball up comfortably.

Anyway, double change for Brum - Davis and Brock-Madsen replaced by Solomon-Otabor & Maghoma

58. The Terriers are living up their name. Quick to sniff out a loose ball or put a player under pressure, they are snapping at Birmingham heels to win the bal back around the halfway line on multiple occassions.

They are still not pressing as high as they did last week, but they are doing very well at narrowing the pitch to restrict Birmingham’s wing threat. COming inside, Birmingham are then losing the ball.

Chance!

55. As I say that...

Emyr Huws is set on his way by Jamie Paterson and the Welshman’s cross finds Scannell, who is inches the wrong side of the post from a second goal.

This is a very different game from last week against Boro, helped by Birmingham’s style of play. They are much less interested in sitting back - and having conceded so early have been forced to go forward all the time anyway in search of a leveller. That is suiting Town, even if their possession stats aren’t going to be quite as high as last week’s 75% (I don’t think!)

53. Town losing their grip a little here. Birmingham have enjoyed good possession and Demarai Gray is giving Tommy Smith plenty to think about down Huddersfield’s right hand side.

Attendance

Today’s crowd is 15,931 with 813 from Huddersfield in the away end to our right.

Save!

47. Save Jed Steer!

The keeper makes a vital intervention not long after kick off - stretching to divert Eardley’s cross round the post for a corner. Again Town clear with a calm pass out in a crowded box and the home fans are once again getting restless. There were a few boos around us at the half time whistle.

Second half

Back under way here at St Andrew’s with Town 1-0 up. Come on you Terriers!

Half time reading

Few minutes until Town come back out so how about a little blast from the past?

John Terry admits the closest he ever came to leaving Chelsea...was for Huddersfield Town!

He said:

“After my loan at Forest, I was supposed to go to Huddersfield. Steve Bruce was their manager. Gianluca Vialli was manager here and he knew David Platt at Forest.

“But I did well in those games. I started five and came on in the other. Chelsea wanted more money then decided they didn’t want to sell as I’d done well.

“I came back and got on the bench for the FA Cup final.”

Agree? Disagree?

Half time Birmingham 0-1 Huddersfield

All looking good at the break! Huddersfield playing well, Joe Lolley’s VERY EARLY goal the difference.

Sky Bet Championship - Birmingham City v Huddersfield Town - Joe Lolley opens the scoring for Town.

Stoppage time

45. Two minutes to be added here. Joe Lolley has just shot wide after being well-picked out by Sean Scannell. Birmingham were beginning to get a grip in the game but suddenly struggling again.

43. Oof! Really nice trickery on the left there from Paterson, who does his defender twice before crossing to the far post. Just a tad too much pace on that one for Tommy Smith.

Whitehead worship

He really has been absolutely excellent so far.

39. There are the Birmingham fans. They haven’t had much to shout about so far but they’re on their feet now - for a free kick that the referee comes back for. Again it’s floated in, again Dean Whitehead tidies up! What a season he is having so far. A really valuable addition to the squad.
