A trip to the National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey helped Huddersfield Town claim a first win of the season.

That’s the view of manager Chris Powell, who took his players to the Berkshire facility in between the consecutive away games at Cardiff City and his former club Charlton Athletic.

Having been beaten 2-0 in South Wales, Town were 2-1 victors in South London through Harry Bunn and Emyr Huws.

It was their first win in seven Championship games and eight in all competitions this term – and in 11 league matches if last season is taken into account.

Powell had four loan players, keeper Jed Steer, centre-back Elliott Ward, midfielder Emyr Huws and winger Mustapha Carayol, starting and his fifth, forward Jamie Paterson, on the bench.

We’ve got a number of new faces, and being at Bisham helped them settle and helped me prepare the side,” he said.

“I was able to talk to the players, work with them and cajole them and they knew exactly what I wanted and what was needed against Charlton.”
