SCORING legend Andy Booth is facing an unusual challenge as he joins an elite band of Town players this weekend.

The 30-year-old frontman makes his 250th League appearance for the Galpharm club when he deputises for Junior Mendes against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road (3.00).

He's only the 15th player to achieve the feat since the Second World War - Steve Jenkins was the last - and only the 22nd ever in what is basically a Who's Who of Town history.

With Mendes netting six goals in as many matches before jetting off to play for Montserrat in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Booth returns for a first start in seven needing to battle for his first-team shirt!

"It's a huge landmark for Boothy and his contribution to this club down the years is immense," said manager Peter Jackson, who has Booth as goalkeeping back-up should Phil Senior suffer an injury!

"I was here as a player at the very start of his career and, since I came back as manager last year, he has been terrific both on and off the field and has really lived up to the `Mr Huddersfield Town' tag which Taff gave him in his book.

"He was a big influence on Jonathan Stead when he broke into the team and, likewise, he has helped both Pawel Abbott and Junior Mendes tremendously.

"Strangely enough, this is probably the first time in his Town career when Boothy has faced some genuine competition for a place in the starting line-up.

"In the past, it's always been Boothy plus AN Other, but the Abbott and Mendes partnership has been producing goals of late and at the moment they've got their hands on the shirts.

"Junior's international call-up has given Boothy a chance to step back in and I know he'll be determined to do well.

"This is a big couple of weeks for Boothy and I'm sure he'll respond to the challenge."

Coincidentally, Booth scored his first-ever Town goal at Bloomfield Road, netting alongside loan man Mark Stuart in a 2-2 draw in November 1992.
