CHRIS BRANDON today signed a two-year contract extension confident of helping Town win promotion.

The 29-year-old midfielder agreed an improved deal to 2008 in a massive boost for Saturday's high noon derby showdown with Bradford at the Galpharm.

Brandon (knee) confirmed he expects to be fit for the clash with his hometown club and commented:

"I'm delighted to have signed a new deal because from the first moment I arrived at Town I've felt very much at home.

"To be part of a club which is going places is a really great feeling, we've got a superb young squad and promotion is definitely the aim.

"I just wish I was a bit younger so that I could enjoy more of the success which is coming our way. It must be great to be the young lads involved in such a good club.

"As a late comer to the pro game at 23, I want to make the most of my career by playing at the highest level I can and I want to make the most of this contract.

"I still feel I'm heading in the right direction and I want to be playing Championship football with Town this time next year."

Brandon, who prefers to play in the centre, added: "I want more consistency and more goals this season.

"I'm desperate to score against Bradford, especially if it could be the winner!"

Manager Peter Jackson said: "Chris hasn't regained the superb form of last season but he's been one of my key signings of the last couple of years. I can't pay him a bigger compliment than that and, while it's dragged on, I'm just delighted the deal is sorted."
