Brighouse Town have a second crack at reaching the first qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time at the Dual Seal Stadium tonight.

Paul Quinn’s side host Billingham Synthonia (7.45) having come within minutes of knocking them out in Saturday’s preliminary round clash on Teesside.

Awaiting the winners is a home clash with Crook Town on Saturday, September 14, and a Brighouse victory tonight would complete a hat trick of Cup clashes with teams from the Northern League.

Seaham Red Star were defeated at the Dual Seal in the extra preliminary round, and it took a 90th-minute equaliser to deny Quinn’s side success at Synthonia.

Billingham had their keeper James Briggs to thank for keeping in the Cup after he pulled off a string of fine saves.

Danny Naidole, direct from a free-kick, Nick Jagger, Luke Gibson and Ernest Boafo, in a goalmouth scramble, were all thwarted in the first half hour.

Then Boafo and Tom Mathews both missed the target when well placed.

Briggs used his feet to deny Mathews five minutes into the second half.

But the Brighouse striker made no mistake on 55 minutes, when he reacted quickly after Joe Mitchell’s shot was blocked to chalk up his seventh goal of the season.

Mathews, Keiran Ryan and Naidole all came close to extending the lead before Brighouse were stunned by the home side’s last-gasp leveller.

Now Quinn will aim to avoid any slip-ups on home soil.
