Match report

Read Doug Thomson’s verdict on today’s defeat here.

A disappointing result, but it’s a first defeat in six Championship games and plenty more miles left in this season.

Thanks for following along today and stay tuned for all the reaction. I’ll be back on Saturday for Cardiff. Until then...

FT Brighton 2-1 Huddersfield

That is that and ten man Town go down 2-1 to Brighton at the Amex.

Off target

91. Not far off from Nahki Wells but he is just over the bar.

Four minutes added

90. Four minutes to be played at the end of regulation. Town have a free kick and opportunity to get the ball into the box.

Hudson up top

89. Mark Hudson further forward for the closing stages with Billing into the centre of defence.

Town change

87. Philip Billing is the final change and he comes on for Jamie Paterson. Can Town rescue something?

Brighton chance

86. Crofts tries to curl a shot into the corner but it’s the wrong side of Steer’s post. The home fans have risen in volume since Smith was sent off.

Smith sent off

83. Tommy Smith receives a second yellow card for a mistimed challenge with Brighton on the attack. Town really up against it now.

Lolley wasteful

81. Lolley fires into the keeper’s gloves from just outside the box with Smith screaming for a pass. With such limited opportunities Town need to make more of those.

Dean Whitehead is the change, with the midfielder coming on for Jason Davidson.

Options from the bench

79. Town need a goal but are struggling to find that key pass to break through the Brighton defence.

New signing Karim Matmour came on at half time, and with Miller injured today it is left to Flo Bojaj as the striking option from the bench. Matmour is playing off Wells, but it is Nahki who remains the lone frontman in this system. Interesting to see what Wagner does in these last 10 minutes.

Attendance

654 Town fans have made the long journey down - really not helped by rail replacement buses!

Smith booked

72. Fourth booking for Town - Tommy Smith has his name taken to join Hudson, Lynch and Cranie in the ref’s notebook.

Striking problems?

Town chance

69. Joe Lolley shows great determination to get past two and into the box - his cross eventually finds a Huddersfield shirt but Bunn and Wells both have their shots blocked by Bruno.

Wilson heads home

Knockaert provided the cross and the young striker made no mistake to head the ball into the back of the net.

Town back to square one. Another change, perhaps?

Goal Brighton

66. Brighton retake the lead through sub James Wilson.

Brighton 2-1 Huddersfield

Argh

63. Ack that’s frustrating. Wells appears to latch on to a loose ball on the right of the area but then it drifts out of play.

Town need some inspiration.

Final Brighton change

61. Third and last change for the hosts as Hemed is replaced by LuaLua.

Hughton has certainly played his cards early. No sign of a second change from Wagner as yet/.

Brighton in the ascendency

60. Town struggling to get any kind of passing game going since the break. Brighton are pinning them back and it is worth noting both Lynch and Hudson are now on yellows.

Brighton change

57. No messing around by Chris Hughton who makes his second change.

Manchester United loanee James Wilson is on in place of Bobby Zamora.

Lynch booked

56. No arguments there as Joel Lynch has his name taken for taking out Knockaert who was on the attack.

The kick misses Steer’s near post by millimetres.

Row 20

47. Early corner for Town which Harry Bunn does well to win.

Ball cleared but falls to Jason Davidson some way out - his wild swing is some way into the seats - row 20 give or take a few.

Second half

46. Back under way!

Half time change

It’s a debut for Karim Matmour!

The new signing replaces Emyr Huws for the second half.

Brighton also make a change - Dale Stephens goes off for Andrew Crofts.

Celebration shots

First half stoppage time joy...

Sky Bet Championship - Brighton v Huddersfield Town - Harry Bunn celebrates equalising for Town.

Half time reaction

HT Brighton 1-1 Huddersfield

Thanks to Harry Bunn’s late goal it’s all square at the break. 65% possession for Town in that half but Brighton looked very dangerous on the break for large spells.

Set up for a great second half.

GOAL TOWN!

46. GOAL! Harry Bunn grabs the equaliser with a neat header into the corner from Tommy Smith’s cross! 1-1!

Two minutes added

45. Two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of this half.

Town chance

44. Applause from Wagner on the touchline for a good attack from a free kick. Hudson heads the ball down and somehow Wells is all alone when the ball falls to him with the home fans screaming offside, but he blazes over.
