ANTHONY GERRARD is delighted his red card has been rescinded by the Football Association.

The 26-year-old centre-back received a straight red in Town’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace which would have carried an automatic three-match ban.

But the FA’s disciplinary committee yesterday upheld Town’s appeal against the decision of referee Graham Scott, and Gerrard is now free to play against Sheffield Wednesday at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow (12.30).

Gerrard told his Twitter followers: "Buzzing my red has been rescinded.

"I was raging the referee blew his whistle for a foul, never mind a red!

"It’s good that common sense has prevailed."

Gerrard will also be available against Leicester City on New Year’s Day and Charlton in the FA Cup on January 5 after the panel cleared him of any wrongdoing at Selhurst Park, when he was punished for a clean challenge on Palace wingman Yannick Bolasie.

It’s a bonus for Town boss Simon Grayson as he looks to jettison an eight-match winless run dating back to the 1-0 win at Barnsley on November 10, especially as Joel Lynch is now back from a one-match suspension served when Town drew 1-1 with Blackpool on Boxing Day (when Gerrard scored).

Peter Clarke started alongside Gerrard in that game, but Lynch will be challenging for a recall against Dave Jones’s side, who have won their last three games.

Injured left-back Calum Woods remains under treatment.
