DANNY CADAMARTERI is in contention for Saturday’s big League I showdown at Stockport – and a new Town contract.

Boss Lee Clark today revealed the 29-year-old, sidelined since February 3 because of a calf injury, is back in full training.

And if there is no reaction, the livewire forward or winger will be in contention for the key Edgeley Park clash.

The news comes alongside confirmation that the club are in talks over a new deal for Cadamarteri, signed by Andy Ritchie in the summer of 2007.

The former Everton starlet’s spell at Town has been hampered by injuries (hamstring and knee as well as calf).

Those have limited him to 28 starts and 11 appearances from the bench, but Clark knows how effective Cadamarteri can be when fit.

The player himself has hinted he would be keen to extend his Galpharm stay, and the manager said: “We have had some preliminary talks.

“Danny has been great since my arrival at the club and his injury was a big blow to me as well as him.

“I’d love to see him put himself in contention for Stockport, and I’d love to be able to sort something out with regards to a new contract.”

Cadamarteri has missed three games since damaging a muscle during the warm-up before the 1-1 home draw with Hartlepool.

Clark resisted the temptation to give him a run-out in yesterday’s reserve clash at Bradford, where Keigan Parker chalked up a hat trick as Town won 4-1.

“Danny’s basic fitness remains very good,” he explained. “He’s not been out for that long and we decided it was better to put him through some tough training sessions then see how he responds.”
