STAN TERNENT praised Town fans’ patience as he surveyed a record of two points from nine and admitted: “It’s not a good return, especially when two of the games have been at home.”

Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by MK Dons was watched by 13,189, all but 331 of them home supporters, and the boss accepted: “They would have been well within their rights to have a good go.

“But to be fair to them, they stuck by us and I thought they were fantastic.

“Now we must improve – and we will do. It’s a case of can do better, must do better, will do better.”

Town had conceded only one goal in their previous three matches this season.

But on Saturday, they trailed to strikes by Jude Stirling (16th minute), Peter Leven (38th) and Sam Baldock (65th) before Gary Roberts grabbed an 83rd-minute consolation, the former Ipswich man’s third goal for the club.

Ternent branded all three conceded by his side as “soft”.

He explained: “For the first the corner came in, Matty Glennon went for it then changed his mind, then Liam Dickinson, who was marking their big guy, lost him, and he finished it well.

“For the second our shape and balance was ridiculous.

“It was our attack and we finished up in a five against one situation.

“If it wasn’t so serious, it would be laughable.

“For the third, for some reason, one player decided to try to play offside.

“It might have been, I wasn’t sure, but it killed the game from our point of view.

“Conceding goals to good play by the opposition is more acceptable than giving them away through your own mistakes.

“The bottom line is that we didn’t make them work hard for their goals.”
