LEE CLARK insists Town can continue to progress without breaking the bank.

The Galpharm chief insists at least three clubs in the League I play-off zone have a wage bill double that of Town.

And with the club having just paid a third £50,000 instalment to non-league Gateshead for eight-goal striker Lee Novak, Clark will not be shaken from chasing top-two automatic promotion this season.

“We are making massive strides on and off the field and growing as a club,” he said.

“Most important is the football and if we can entertain and win matches, then people will want to come and watch.

“We are doing all this without going overboard on the financial side, whatever people may have heard (in the transfer window).

“Nothing has changed with our budget from last season to this and at least three clubs above us have double our wages. We are getting the right players without over-spending because we are running the club properly and, on the pitch, we just have to take care of our own business.

“We have a lot of catching up to do on some, but if they slip up we have to be ready to pounce. With a fantastic run, who knows where we could end up?”

Newcastle United notched an emphatic 5-1 home win against Cardiff City in last night’s Championship game.
