Frankie Bunn has urged Huddersfield Town Under 21s to cap a “fantastic season” by maintaining their focus and claiming Professional Development League II play-off glory at Sheffield United on Saturday (1.00).

Town finished eight points clear of the Blades in the North section before seeing off Millwall in the play-off semi-finals.

United were semi-final victors at South champions Charlton Athletic, then won the toss for home advantage in the final.

Bramall Lane was the scene of one of only five regular-season defeats for Bunn’s charges, who reached the semi-finals of the Under 21 Premier League Cup, losing on penalties to Hull City.

The Blades were 2-0 winners back in February, and Bunn said: “They are direct and aggressive and we will have to be ready for that.

“But we have won the title, and deservedly so, and we have to underline that fact.”

Town reached last season’s final, going down 3-2 to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

But former Manchester City and Coventry City coach Bunn, who took over the Under 21s two years ago after being in charge of the 18s previously, wasn’t expecting such big things this time around.

“From where we started, we have progressed unbelievably,” he explained.

“We had a 5-5 draw at QPR then lost against Hull and Nottingham Forest.

“But then we went on a long unbeaten run (16 games) and all credit to the players.

“They have put in the work, taken our coaching on board and come on in leaps and bounds.

“Now they have to turn up against Sheffield, make sure they produce what they are capable of and put the gloss on a fantastic season.”

Admission to Bramall Lane, where there will be extra time and penalties if necessary, is £3 adults and £1 concessions.
