Dean Hoyle is looking forward to seeing Mark Robins’ new management team in action this week.

The boss’s new assistant Steve Thompson and Steve Eyre, who has been promoted to first-team coach, will get to work on the training ground on Thursday, after players have completed fitness assessments today and tomorrow.

Thompson has a wealth of experience under his belt having operated in the Premier League with Blackpool.

Former Manchester City youth coach and Rochdale manager Eyre has spent the last two seasons as Town’s development coach, so already knows the players well.

“I think we have a nice, fresh mix,” said chairman Hoyle, who says the club are still looking to strengthen the spine of the side in midfield and up front.

“Mark put a lot of time and effort into interviewing candidates and took his time to ensure the right decision.

“I think he and Steve Thompson will work well together, and while they share the same philosophies, Steve won’t be scared to voice his opinions.

“The same goes for Steve Eyre, who also has plenty of varied experience.

“I’ve seen him working with the Under 21s and the first team, and the players always seem to enjoy the challenge of his sessions.

“He has an excellent knowledge of the club and the squad that will be important.”

Town have also promoted Nick Colgan to goalkeeping coach (he was doing that job in the academy).

Allan Stewart has moved from Hull to become Town’s head of sports science.

Dan Hughes will follow Colgan from the youth to first-team set-up as strength and conditioning coach.

And Stuart Heaviside becomes the academy’s lead sports scientist.
