Ex-Aston Villa and England midfielder Kieran Richardson is in talks with Birmingham City .

The 31-year-old had two years at Villa, but was released last summer in part of the club's clear-out following relegation.

Now it is thought the Blue half of Birmingham are keen on the left-sided midfielder and are looking to sign up the former Manchester United man on a one-year deal.

Richardson has never competed in the Championship in his 14-year career, but made just 11 league appearances for Aston Villa last season.

Blackburn Rovers are chasing up to three new players before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

Manager Owen Coyle confirmed the Lancashire club will be involved in the transfer market, with his side losing their opening two matches of the season.

He said: "We are vigorously chasing two or three I think that can help to add to the group because that's what we need.

"When we came in, the squad we inherited, there was no strikes at the club and there was deficiencies in different areas.

"We knew it was going to be difficult and then within that we've lost a very important player in Grant Hanley, who is a fantastic player.

"Of course we've got to try and replace some players and that's what we're going to try and do."

"I was very happy here, now we have new management and the persistence from Leeds was all I wanted."
