Leeds United have failed in their attempt to sign Belgium U21 full-back Bryan Verboom from Zulte Waregem.

The Yorkshire club had been looking in to left-back cover, with Charlie Taylor hoping for a move away from Elland Road.

According to Belgian journalist Pieter-Jan Colcoen, from Het Last Nieuws, Zulte rejected an undisclosed bid from Leeds for the 24-year-old defender.

Verboom joined Zulte from Anderlecht in 2013 and has three years left on his contract at the club.

Patrick Bamford

Patrick Bamford is on the verge of signing for ex-Premier League side Aston Villa , according to the Mirror.

Bamford has played on loan at Derby County, Norwich, Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace from Chelsea in recent seasons, but Villa look set to snap up the youngster on a permanent basis.

Villa are yet to win a match this season, with £12m signing Ross McCormack set for his debut this weekend against Rotherham.

Aston Villa have also signed West Bromwich Albion defender James Chester as Roberto Di Matteo looks to build a side able to bounce straight back into the top flight.

Chris Martin of Derby

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly lodged a bid for Derby County striker Chris Martin.

The £6.5m offer is thought to have been rejected by the Rams, but Wolves' big-spending policy this transfer window could help them to mount a promotion challenge.

Martin bagged 15 goals for his club last season, topping the scoring charts at Pride Park.

According to the BBC, Derby want to keep hold of their man and add Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri to their ranks this summer.

Newcastle United are not in the race to sign Italy striker Lorenzo Insigne.

The North East club had been rumoured to want the £25m striker, but Rafa Benitez rejected the claims in his press conference today.

Finally, Fulham have signed Spanish midfielder Jozabed Sanchez Ruiz on a three-year deal from La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano.

The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Sevilla before joining the Madrid-based side.
