Chris Powell will tell his Huddersfield Town players to be competitive and composed in Saturday's eagerly-awaited derby clash with Leeds United.

Town go into the all-ticket John Smith's Stadium game, which kicks off at 12.30, chasing a third successive home league win and eager to atone for their 3-0 loss at Elland Road in September.

"We're a very different side to back then, both in terms of our mentality and the way we approach games, but of course all defeats hurt, and particularly in derbies," said Powell, whose side are 15th in the Championship to Leeds' 20th.

"There's a lot riding on the game for both sides, and Leeds will have a sell-out following, so we're looking at a 20,000-plus crowd .

"When Nottingham Forest and Bolton brought big followings, my players responded with good performances and victories, so that is the aim again, and we have been good at home.

"We must be competitive, but also composed, and we want to play our expansive football and make sure our supporters go home happy.

"As a manager I answer to the fans as well as the chairman, and I want to make them proud of what they are seeing."

On-loan Birmingham City man David Edgar looks set for a home debut in midfield - Jonathan Hogg (thigh) is unlikely to be fit - while Powell isn't expecting any new arrivals before the game.

"We're still on the look-out, especially for a striker, and hopefully we may get something done before Monday's (11.00pm) deadline," said the boss.

"But if if doesn't happen, I won't panic, particularly as we have the emergency loan window opening in another week."

Powell is looking forward to a reunion with both Leeds head coach Neil Redfearn and his assistant Steve Thompson, who moved from Town in December .

"Neil and I were teammates at Charlton and Crystal Palace before that. He is a good guy and an accomplished coach," said Powell.

"I think he is part of the fabric of Leeds United, a man who knows the club and the supporters, and he is a good fit at Elland Road.

"Thommo was watching when we won at Wigan last Saturday. I gave him a wave, and hopefully the lads gave him some food for thought ahead of this game!

"But if course it's not about me renewing friendships, it's about what happens out on the pitch and us working hard to get three points."
