TOM CLARKE aims to be back in Town action by the end of the month – and his manager is delighted by the news, writes DOUG THOMSON.

The versatile 21-year-old had to have knee surgery after catching the eye early in the season.

Boss Lee Clark, whose side host Exeter City in League I today, said: “We’ve missed Tom, without a shadow of a doubt.

“He’s had an impact on the pitch and is also a personality around the place, which is important.

“He was playing very well before his injury, and after the disappointment of needing the operation, he’s worked very hard on his rehabilitation.

“He started running on Thursday, and he’s been given a target date of the end of this month for a comeback, but knowing Tom, he’ll go all out to make it earlier!”

After appearing as a substitute in the opening-day draw at Southend United, Clarke started the following four games, against Stockport County (Carling Cup), Brighton, Southampton and Bristol Rovers.

That took his Town appearances to 80 since making his debut as a 17-year-old in December 2005.
