LOAN defender Matt Lockwood has been given permission to play for Dagenham & Redbridge against Town.

The Colchester player has joined John Still’s League II side and made his debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Port Vale.

It was expected the experienced 33-year-old would not be available for the first-round Galpharm tie on Friday (7.45) – but he has been granted permission by Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd.

The Daggers, meanwhile, have been picking the brains of Wayne Burnett in the build-up to the match against Lee Clark’s side.

Burnett, who made 60 midfield appearances for Town between 1996 and 1998 under Brian Horton and Peter Jackson, is Dagenham’s first team coach and academy manager.

He has been at the club since the summer and is the only current connection there with Town.
