DANNY WARD aims to put the boot into some of his biggest fans on Saturday – and start making some new ones!

The 19-year-old midfielder signed on loan from Bolton to help Town cope with the loss of injured Anthony Pilkington spent the bulk of last season at Swindon, Saturday’s visitors to the Galpharm.

His exciting wing play, plus nine goals in 32 appearances, made him popular with the County Ground faithful as they watched their side reach the League I play-off final.

The Wiltshire club, now fighting relegation and with Paul Hart having replaced Danny Wilson as manager, wanted Ward to return for a second spell.

But the Bradford-born former Leeds player, contracted to Bolton until 2013,instead chose Town, making his debut as a half-time substitute in Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Brentford.

A fourth victory in five kept Lee Clark’s side, now unbeaten in 16 league games, second in the table, and Ward is determined to do what he can to help them stay there.

“Coming from Bradford, I know quite a bit about Town, and I know they’re doing very well this season,” said the player who has made two appearances from the bench for Bolton and had a loan stint at Coventry earlier this campaign, cut short by a hernia which needed surgery.

“I’m back to full fitness and in need of games, and when I sat down with the Bolton manager (Owen Coyle) and looked at the options, we agreed Huddersfield was the right one.

“I enjoyed my time at Swindon and losing out to Millwall in the play-off final was a big blow, but I’m at Huddersfield now, and I’ve been given a second bite of the cherry in terms of winning promotion.

“I want to help this club reach the Championship and also progress my own career, and hopefully this move with benefit both of us.”

Town boss Clark was today checking on Tuesday’s hero Peter Clarke, who scored Town’s last-gasp winner against Brentford at Griffin Park despite tweaking his back early in the contest.
