Head coach David Wagner put pen to paper on a new Huddersfield Town contract - then pledged to push the club forward on and off the pitch.

The 44-year-old former USA international striker and Borussia Dortmund II coach and his right-hand man and fellow German Christoph Buhler, have both agreed new deals.

Details aren’t being disclosed, but Wagner, who has already signed five new players as he prepares for his first pre-season in England after being appointed last November, is clear about his objectives in the Championship.

And the full-throttle football advocate believes Town’s willingness to accept new methods will pay off in front of crowds which will be swelled by the ongoing £179 season-card offer.

“I’m very happy to have been able to sign a new contract at Huddersfield Town,” said the former Mainz and Schalke player.

“The way the club, its people and the fans have accepted me and Christoph since the first day we arrived in Huddersfield has been unbelievable.

“I’d like to thank our chairman Dean Hoyle and our fantastic fans for their trust, help and support.

“I knew this club was one that wanted to embrace new ideas, but I now understand how different our ideas have been!

“That has made the reaction of everyone here truly special.

“We have lots of exciting plans to improve Huddersfield Town further and it is perfect for me that Dean and the board are in total agreement.

“This relationship and trust between the head coach and the people in charge is not normal.

“Together with Dean, the board and (head of football operations) Stuart Webber, we will push the club forward in all areas on and off the pitch.

“Christoph and I are both excited about the possibilities at Huddersfield.

“We are still realistic and humble about the Championship challenge, but on the other side confident and ambitious enough to make the next steps on the journey we started six months ago.

“I will give the club, players, staff and myself no limits and can’t wait to start the next season.

“I promise that Christoph and I will work as hard as we can in the future to help every single player and the club to improve to the highest level they can achieve.”
