David Wagner will cast his eye over Huddersfield Town’s juniors in their FA Youth Cup clash with holders Chelsea tonight.

The John Smith’s Stadium boss is making the journey to Aldershot with directors and staff to see if the Under 18s can pull off a big third-round shock (7.05pm)

More important for him, however, will be the performance of Tony Carss charges – all of whom are keen to push for Under 21 game time and, eventually, a place in Wagner’s senior squad.

It could not be a bigger test for Town, but Carss says they’ve not left a stone unturned in preparation to try and improve on last season’s 6-1 defeat to the same opposition at the same stage.

“There’s a real togetherness among the lads and they are looking forward to it,” said the coach.

“We’ve done our planning and preparation in detail and we’ve now got to go out and believe that we can not only perform but achieve as well.

“We’ve learned a lot from last year and, hopefully, we will compete and let them know they’ve been in a game.”
