Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner credited the Terriers' academy for the performance of 17-year-old Matty Daly against Bury FC yesterday.

The Town youngster got 45 minutes of action in the heart of Town's midfield at Gigg Lane and scored the fourth and final goal to wrap up the match in favour of the West Yorkshire side.

Daly joined Town at Under 15 level from Everton and quickly progressed to the Terriers' Under 23 side, as well as representing England 's U17s at the 2018 European Championships.

And the attacking midfielder continued to impress in a Town shirt yesterday as he aided the first team to a thumping 4-0 pre-season win against the Shakers.

And after the match, Wagner revealed he was considering taking Daly on the Terriers' pre-season camps in Germany and Austria.

He said: "He [Daly] is a homegrown player who came through our academy, so credit to our academy with what they’ve done with him so far.

"He’s been with us for a week and you were able to see his talent in some moments and his youth in other moments, both in positive and negative ways. We shouldn’t see the negatives in him, we should only see the positives.

"He’s a talent and we will support him and give him the help to make him better.

"He will go with us for some further days in this pre-season and maybe come with us to the Germany or Austria camp as well.

"This is a discussion and a decision that I will have to make later on.

"It is very nice for him and our football club that he was involved today for the first time and that he scored made it even better."
