DEAN HOYLE is urging Town fans to ‘raise the roof’ against new League I leaders Leicester at the Galpharm on Saturday.

The chairman-elect wants a biggest crowd of the season and a terrific atmosphere as Town bid for a third win in five matches.

“At the start of the season people looked to this Leicester fixture and Leeds United as the two big games – and what I would say to all the supporters out there is ‘get behind us’ because we do need their help,” urged Hoyle.

“What I do know about this football club is that supporters will go away from home and get behind the team 100%, but the same fans at the Galpharm won’t say a word, they don’t sing and they’re not vocal.

“But we need them to be!

“We are vocal supporters, but we need to make the effort at home. There are sections which are fantastic week in and week out, but it’s those who sit on their hands at home who we need to join in and be the 12th man.

“The supporters were fantastic against Northampton. They stuck with us and it made a difference, but we need it against Leicester, we need it against Bristol Rovers, Yeovil, Crewe and for the rest of the season.”

Hoyle can’t wait for Town to tackle a team relegated from the Championship last season.

“It’s one of those games where the directors’ box is the wrong place for me – I should really be in the stands!” he beamed.

“Leicester are a quality team. People talk about our wage bill being big, but theirs is a lot bigger and they’re on fire at the moment. They’re winning almost every game and don’t concede many goals, so it will be an excellent test of where Huddersfield Town are against one of the fancied teams in this division. I’d like to think we’ll be with them.

“If we can create a good atmosphere, get a good performance and, after Oldham last week and Northampton before that, it could be the start of our season. I would encourage everyone to come down and see us take off.”

Club officials hope the crowd will top 18,000.

“There are obviously a few season-ticket holders staying away, but you’d hope they would come to the game against Leicester, so we’re hoping for 18,000 or more,” he added.

“Times are tough out there but if the club does well it can be a shining light. We’ve sold cheap tickets, invested in players, delivered on our promises and I want us to be able to bring a bit of sunshine to people – and hopefully we can do that on Saturday.

“It has been a tough start to the season, but it’s coming together now. We beat Northampton 3-2 and it wasn’t pretty, but we went to Oldham and got the performance so, hopefully, against Leicester we’ll get both.”
