THE last Patrons meeting of the season involved some familiar faces and one that is now getting very familiar!
Andrew Watson, Ann Hough, Sean Jarvis and chairman-elect Dean Hoyle were our guests.Although everyone on the panel contributed – and there was a lot to talk about! – the large attendance of well over 100 had mainly come to hear what ‘Deano’ had to say!
They didn’t go away disappointed. He came across as committed, determined, positive and as a true Town fan.
And he got several long rounds of applause and we hope he went away knowing that he has the backing of the supporters and, especially, the Patrons.
We now know the season-ticket record has been broken and that we can expect gates of more than 15,000 for all our home games next season.
Arrive early is the recommendation!
We also know that we have lost one derby in Doncaster but retained another against our biggest rivals, Leeds.
Those two matches will be the first we look for when the fixtures are released.
The season-ticket deal has been a stunning success and the reaction to it equally stunning.
Several long-standing Town fans from Canada, the USA and Australia, who keep in touch by e-mail, decided to buy to use on the odd occasion they should ever be in the vicinity, but want the tickets to be mainly used to allow disadvantaged children to attend games at other times.
We believe other people have also recognised this opportunity and done the same and we also applaud Mark Wilkinson’s efforts to make tickets available for local youth teams (look out for more details and how to help next week). It makes you proud to be a Town fan and the atmosphere for the first home game of the season is sure to be electric!
The next Patrons meeting falls on Thursday, August 7, the night after the Arsenal game, and we hope that another good turn out will welcome our intended guests – Stan Ternent, Ronnie Jepson and hopefully Mick Docherty.
It’s in the main banqueting suite (8.00).
