Huddersfield Town Ladies’ second string had a tough time at home as they were beaten 4-1 by Sheffield FC in the Women’s Premier League Reserve Northern Division.

While the firsts had no game – they head to Northern Women’s Combination leaders Stockport County on Sunday (2.00) – the reserves produced a hard-fought display.

Drawing 1-1 at half-time thanks to a goal by Shauna Messenger, it was disappointing when three late Sheffield strikes ended their challenge.

On Sunday, the seconds head to Leeds United Reserves (2.00).

The Under 16s suffered a first defeat of the Sheffield and Hallamshire League campaign, 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday. Katie Lockwood was their scorer.

It’s Doncaster Belles away on Saturday (11.00), while the Under 14s, who were without a game at the weekend, host Rovers FC Foundation in a League Cup tie at Grange Moor (10.30).

The Under 12s suffered the same fate as the 16s, defeat by Sheffield Wednesday, who were 3-1 victors at Grange Moor.

A second defeat of the season was a big frustration for Town, who would have won had they taken their chances.

Wednesday went ahead from a free-kick in the fourth minute, before Alicia Marriott shot narrowly wide.

Wednesday went two up after 20 minutes, and while Town worked hard to get back into the game, the visitors held firm, and scored again with 10 minutes left.

Molly Ellis hit a post with five minutes to go, then twin sister Macy finally forced a reply with a strong shot.

Player of the match was 10-year-old defender Frances Keddie, who went on as a substitute in the first half.

Wisewood Juniors is the destination for a League Cup tie on Saturday (11.00).
