TOWN boss Lee Clark has started his planning for next season and has revealed the futures of experienced defenders David Unsworth and Chris Lucketti.
Former Premiership centre back Unsworth, 36, has reached agreement with the club to terminate his contract, while 37-year-old Lucketti aims to see out the remaining year on his current deal, but Clark has made it clear that the club captain may be better seeking a deal elsewhere.
“I believe the club has come to a financial agreement with David that will see his contract with the club end early,” explained Clark.
“With Chris I have spoken to him to tell him that he isn’t a part of my long-term plans.
“He still has a year on his contract at the club, but if he can find another club it might be good for him personally.”
However, Clark wasn’t about to push Lucketti, who has served the Terriers in two spells, out of the door.
“To be Chris’s age and still playing is just testimony to what a good professional he is,” said Clark.
“He showed in the few games he played for us recently just how committed he is.
“He has a terrific attitude and he is a great example to the younger players around the club.”Related content
And Lucketti could well have his suitors as Clark revealed that an inquiry has already been made about his availability.
“Brighton have made an inquiry about Chris and we put it to him,” said Clark.
“Chris has decided that he will politely decline the offer.”
The two defenders look likely to be only the first players seeking other clubs as Clark begins putting in place his plans for next term.
“There are other players here who will leave for pastured new,” said Clark. “The only constant in football is that things change.”
