I THOUGHT there were a few positives from Town's performance on Saturday.

Town defended much better than we have on occasions with Clarke and Mirfin looking back to their best.

I'm getting a bit worried at the other end, though, even though that sounds daft having just scored in 31 consecutive games.

Abbott, for some reason, doesn't look anywhere near the player he did two months ago.

He seems to either be brimming with confidence or have none at all.

Danny Schofield remains frustratingly either brilliant or non-existent and surely we need another striker?

I watched last season's video over the weekend and one has to ask why we are loaning out Mendes indefinitely while fielding a bench devoid of strikers?

Mendes might not, ultimately, be good enough for what we need, but we need the cover and that's without injuries or suspensions, particularly given that Gary Taylor-Fletcher looks more of a midfielder than a striker to many.

Swap for Smith?

HOW about a swap with Northampton of Junior Mendes for Martin Smith?

We all remember him as the last truly skilful midfielder-cum-striker that we had.

Also it is clear that we need cover at left-back for Danny Adams.

Happy with the effort against Bradford but we missed a bit of class.

It seems obvious that Pawel Abbott has lost some confidence and really needs somebody to instil it back in him.

Maybe a few goals in the Reserves might sharpen his scoring boots.

Tannoy trouble

AS a Bradford City fan, I hold up my hands and admit the incident which ruined the minute's silence before the derby was started by some lads at the back of the away end.

After that, some Town fans took it upon themselves to retaliate by shouting back and it was all very unsavoury and disgraceful.

The point of my message, however, is that many people behind the goal didn't realise what was happening because the tannoy in that section is just about inaudible.

You couldn't hear anything in the stadium, the teams being announced or, indeed, the announcement of the minute's silence, so people who were chatting at the back and not taking notice of what was happening on the pitch at that stage just didn't know.

I'm not making excuses for the people involved, but the fact that the tannoy couldn't be heard certainly didn't help.

Ban them

WE should all be disgusted with the morons from both sides who cannot respect a minute's silence.

It was a Bradford fan who started it but some Town fans continued it and one, in particular, should be found and banned for life by our club.

No excuses, both Town and Bradford can do without these people.

We only went to watch a football match. Somebody lost their life on Friday trying to protect the people of West Yorkshire, part of the county we all love.

The people who shouted out should be ashamed of themselves, but we all know that isn't in their make-up.

Proud fan

LEFT home at 6am for the game against Bradford and I'm proud to support a team who I think are going up this season.

Sure, our final ball was a problem on Saturday, but we are still in a strong position.

Final third hurts

TOWN looked good on Saturday, as we usually do, up to the last third, where it hurts.

Once Pav Abbott went off in the second half we never looked like scoring.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher had a better first half wide right but drifted out of the game when moved up front.

We didn't have a striker on the bench to liven things up.

Midfield needs to be more positive around the box and go for goal.

I still think we need another goalscorer before we drop too many more points at home.

Credit to the defence, Clark and Mirfin were outstanding.

Shoot more

GOOD game on Saturday with two committed teams, plenty of attacking football and good defending from both sides.

Bradford look a better team playing away than they are at home.

I have a concern with regard to Town's lack of shots around the box. We always seem to play one pass too many, trying to score the `perfect goal.'

We make room around the box, but nobody wants to have a shot, prefering to pass to a colleague who is usually tightly marked and loses the ball.

Why don't we shoot from outside the box?
