It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Town really need to produce a performance, and even more importantly, a positive result, against Derby tomorrow.

It’s apt that the game is at Pride Park.

That’s exactly what Mark Robins’ men need to show as they seek the win which would both renew the faith of the fans and stave off the prospect of being sucked into a survival scrap.

We’re at that stage of the season where it’s hard not to cast an eye over what is happening elsewhere.

Of particular interest will be Bolton v Barnsley, Brighton v Charlton, Ipswich v Doncaster, Leeds v Blackpool, Millwall v Watford and Yeovil v Bournemouth.

That list in itself shows how many clubs are either in a pickle, or could yet find themselves in one.

Few at the John Smith’s Stadium on March 1 would have seen the current scenario coming.

But since Barnsley were beaten 5-0, it’s been setback after setback, with no wins, just three points from a possible 24 and a home defeat by Ipswich on Tuesday which was dispiriting in the extreme.

There’s certainly a case to be made for form dipping since the turn of the year.

But Town have still produced some decent displays, for example against QPR and Wigan as well as Barnsley

The trip to Derby provides a great chance to turn thing around.

It certainly won’t be easy, because depending on the results at Brighton and Ipswich, Steve McClaren’s side could seal a play-off place by winning.

McClaren, who started the season on the coaching staff at QPR, has done a good job in the East Midlands, where he took over in late September.

He inherited talented players like Scottish international Craig Bryson, who has provided 16 goals from midfield, teenage playmaker Will Hughes and Chris Martin, Derby’s top scorer with 17.

And the former England boss has made some telling loan acquisitions in Liverpool full-back Andre Wisdom, West Brom midfielder George Thorne and Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford.

Town will have their work cut out, but both Ipswich and McClaren’s former club Middlesbrough have got the better of Derby in recent weeks.

Now it’s Town’s turn to have a go.
