Huddersfield Town Ladies produced a desperately disappointing second-half display as they lost 6-2 at home to Preston North End in the FA Women’s Premier League North Division.
They had fought back from two down to be level at the break thanks to goals by Emily Heckler and Katie Lockwood.
But Preston’s Sarah Chadwick completed a hat trick to ensure a sixth league loss which left Town sixth in the 12-team table.
Town could have gone ahead early, but Heckler headed against the bar from Debs Hastings’ cross, then Katie Lockwood put the rebound wide.
Chadwick had a seventh-minute goal disallowed for offside, but struck soon after, slotting the ball home after Town keeper Laura Carter palmed Laura Walker’s free-kick against the bar.
Carter saved from Nicola Emery, but could do nothing to stop Chadwick striking again, her shot going in off a post.
Town pulled one back when Lockwood fired home from Heckler’s through ball.
Two minutes before the break, Heckler levelled, volleying in after Kate Mallin’s shot was blocked.
But Preston regained the lead a minute into the second half when Chadwick produced a cool finish.
Town’s Olivia Da Costa had a shot deflected narrowly wide, while Hastings went close.
But Preston stretched their lead with a tame goal 17 minutes from time.
A deep free-kick from Walker wasn’t dealt with, and Chelsea Flanagan nipped in to net.
Emily Hutton notched her side’s fifth with a well-placed shot before Holly Rawcliffe scored from distance.
