SOUTHAMPTON youngster Ryan Doble has signed a new contract extension.

The 20-year-old, who can operate in midfield or attack, has yet to make his first team debut for the Saints but has impressed for the academy side and reserves.

His contract was due to expire this summer but he has now signed a deal to stay at St Mary’s until the summer of 2012.

In League II caretaker manager Peter Ward has called on the Stockport County hierarchy to clear up the uncertainty over the future direction of the club.

Ward has been placed in temporary charge at Edgeley Park, but reports have linked the Hatters with a move for Port Vale assistant Geoff Horsfield.

“I’ve asked the question at the club and no one seems to know where the story about Horsfield came from,” said Ward.

“I’m just concentrating on doing my job until someone knocks on the door and tells me to clear my desk.

“It’s disappointing because it distracts from the good result we had against Bury on Saturday.

“We’re just preparing for Macclesfield and working towards getting another three points.”
