Huddersfield Town are getting a central defender with “a little bit of everything” in Elliott Ward.

That’s the verdict of Michael Bailey, a football writer who covers Norwich City for the Eastern Daily Press.

The 30-year-old Ward – who has joined the John Smith’s Stadium club for an initial month, with the possibility of the deal being extended – helped Norwich win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League before joining current club Bournemouth and repeating the feat.

He is likely to go straight into manager Chris Powell’s squad for the upcoming away double-header against Cardiff City on Saturday and Charlton Athletic next Tuesday, and Bailey reckons he’s a solid signing at the start of the loan transfer window.

“Elliott is a really good player when he’s on song with a little bit of everything,” said Bailey, who watched every match Ward played for the Carrow Road club between May 2010 and October 2012.

“He played most of the games when City went up (2010-11) and he’s quite cultured on the ball, being left-sided, as well as having the bravery all good defenders have.

“He reads the game well and, while he has picked up the odd injury through his career, I always thought there was something classy about him.”
