NORTH Queensland Fury have denied Robbie Fowler has been the subject of an approach by managerless Tranmere Rovers.

Huddersfield Town's League I rivals Rovers parted company with manager John Barnes last week and reports over the weekend suggested the club had approached 34-year-old Fowler with a view to the former Liverpool and England striker becoming their new player-manager.

Fowler, the Fury’s ’marquee’ player, has found his goalscoring touch of late with four goals in six games, but his club insist there has been no approach for his services.

"North Queensland Fury FC is aware of a report on UK-based website People.co.uk that suggests marquee player Robbie Fowler could make the move back to Britain to play for League One club, Tranmere Rovers," read a statement issued by the A-League club.

"Rovers have not approached the Fury in relation to Robbie Fowler."

Fowler has a two-year contract with the Fury and earlier this year vowed to honour that deal after being linked with Tranmere in July.

"I’ve got a two-year contract with North Queensland Fury FC and I’m a man of my word - I’ll play it out," Fowler said at the time.

"I wouldn’t want anyone to do that sort of thing (renege on a contract) to me and I certainly wouldn’t do it anyone."
