TOWN manager Lee Clark will continue to monitor the progress of former Manchester United striker Chris Fagan, who has signed a deal with Scottish Premier League Hamilton Academicals until the end of the season.

Fagan, from the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain, impressed in two trial games with Town’s reserves, scoring a hat trick in a 5-0 away success over Hartlepool and another goal in the 1-1 home draw with Barnsley.

“I was really pleased with the work that he did when he was with us,” said Clark. “Just at this time I was not sure Chris was what we needed, but he did terrific for us and I am delighted he has sorted something out.

“It will be good to see how he goes on, but I am just pleased for him and I hope that he does well.”

However, Clark did not want to discuss another major signing, declining to give a view on Alan Shearer’s appointment as Newcastle manager.

Clark was a colleague of the former England striker at St James’ Park, while Town’s backroom staff Steve Black, Terry McDermott and Derek Fazackerley have also all worked alongside Shearer.
