Huddersfield Town’s season has been shaped by sevens – and not just Sean Scannell, whose resurgence under Chris Powell has provided such an interesting sub-plot.

After a worrying run of seven games without a win, Town have the opportunity to end the Championship campaign by going the same number of matches unbeaten.

That would match the sequence from late September through to early November which included a 4-2 home win over final-day hosts Blackpool.

It fed hopes that Powell’s side could feature in the top half of the table, although inconsistency means that has not materialised.

Town, currently 16th, could actually finish anywhere between 15th and 18th, and while they can’t match the 58 points accrued in 2012-13, they could register a highest final placing since returning to the second tier, bettering last season’s 17th.

Supporters would also love Town to finish above Leeds United, who are a point better off and close their fixtures at home to Rotherham United.

There’s no doubting where Blackpool will end up.

A Premier League side in 2010, they have been bottom of the table since that defeat by Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on October 18, and their relegation was confirmed on April 6.

The Tangerines’ troubles have been well documented, and supporters’ emotions are running high, with protests against chairman Karl Oyston ongoing.

Focus must be on own game

As Powell has said this week, Town, who have sold out their 2,287 ticket allocation, must focus on their own game as they aim to go into the close-season on the back of a 14th league victory at the expense of former manager Lee Clark.

The Geordie, whose side includes former Town skipper Peter Clarke, will be desperate to avoid his side’s winless run being extended to 18 matches.

Meanwhile Town striker Ishmael Miller will want to impress against the club with whom he started the season, scoring twice in 24 appearances.

Powell is hoping loanee Reece James will be fit to play, although he’ll have to prove his fitness in training today.

The manager had indicated he could include Joe Wilkinson again and possibly Duane Holmes, Phil Billing and Will Boyle.
