It's 50 years since Rotherham United last won a league match in Huddersfield.

And how Huddersfield Town could do with extending the Millers’ miserable run in this part of West Yorkshire.

Chris Powell’s side produced the goods last time they set studs on home turf, putting three without reply past Reading to climb into the top half of the Championship.

That meant consecutive clean sheets for Alex Smithies, but the Town keeper has had to bend his back to pick the ball out of his net seven times in the last two games.

Town were unable to live with either Powell’s old club and mid-table rivals Charlton Athletic, who beat them 3-0 last Saturday, or play-off chasers Brentford, who were 4-1 winners at Griffin Park on Tuesday.

As a result, they have dropped back to 16th after Leeds United beat Ipswich Town 2-1 on Wednesday.

Realistically, Powell and his team shouldn’t be drawn into the relegation tussle.

But with 11 games still to go and in a division as unpredictable as the Championship, nothing can be certain.

Town are 11 points above Wigan Athletic, Millwall and the drop zone and five better off than Rotherham, who gave themselves a huge tonic with last Saturday’s 2-1 home success over Ian Holloway’s Lions, who occupy the drop spots with Wigan and Blackpool.

So gaining another three against Steve Evans’ South Yorkshire side would keep a number of teams at arm’s length.

But Rotherham will be desperate for victory as well in a game which will bring Town old boys Danny Ward, a January signing, and Jack Hunt, who is on loan from Crystal Palace, back to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Adam Hammill will sit this one out under the terms of his loan from Town to the Millers, but Evans still has some tricky players at his disposal.

And Rotherham’s resilience was clear to see back on Boxing Day, when they chalked up two late goals to claim a draw after James Vaughan and Conor Coady struck for Town.

Vaughan has cut a frustrated figure in the last two games, both of which were missed by shoulder injury victim and Town top scorer Nahki Wells.

Powell doesn’t have too many options, but after successive midweek matches and two trips to London, it will be interesting to see if he tries a bit of freshening up for this one.
