Huddersfield Town will host Walsall in round four of the FA Cup – if they can get through their third-round replay at Reading next Tuesday, January 19.

While David Wagner’s side scored in stoppage time to seal a 2-2 draw with the Royals at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, League One Walsall were 1-0 winners at Brentford.

Now Sean O’Driscoll and his players will be eyeing another Championship scalp.

A clash with the Saddlers, who have also seen off Fleetwood Town and Chesterfield in the FA Cup this season, would be special for Jamie Paterson, who scored Town’s opener against Reading.

The on-loan Nottingham Forest forward came through the youth ranks at the Bescot Stadium and made 102 appearances for them, scoring 16 goals, before leaving in 2013.

Walsall, who lost boss Dean Smith to Brentford in November, are going well in League I.

They are third ahead of tomorrow night’s derby game at fourth-placed Coventry City.

Walsall last visited Town for a 1-1 League I draw in April 2012.

There have been two previous FA Cup clashes between the sides, with Town winning both, 3-0 at Leeds Road in round five in 1938-39 and 1-0 at Fellows Park in round one in 1975-76.

Town chief Wagner said: “At this stage, my only concern is in beating Reading.

“If we can win there, we will then think about playing against Walsall.”

The 16 fourth-round ties will be played between Friday, January 29 and Sunday, February 1.

If Town aren’t involved, they have a home Championship game against Cardiff City on Saturday, January 30.
