A total of 10,500 tickets have already been sold for Huddersfield Town’s plum pre-season friendly against Liverpool.

The Shankly Trophy clash pits David Wagner against close friend Jurgen Klopp at the John Smith’s Stadium on Wednesday, July 20 (7.45).

And with Liverpool expected to bring a stand-out squad across the Pennines and Town featuring seven new signings in Rajiv van La Parra, Michael Hefele, Chris Loewe, Joel Coleman, Jack Payne, Ivan Paurevic and Elias Kachunga, interest has been going through the roof.

Between the two clubs – and Liverpool expect a big contingent to travel from Anfield – the 10,500 barrier has already been breached, and tickets remain on sale.

The south end of the Revel Ward (main stand), upper and lower tiers, are already sold out for Town fans, but there is availability in the north end and the Fantastic Media Stand upper tier.

The Britannia Rescue Stand (Kilner Bank) is not open for the match.

Liverpool have received an allocation of 3,829 tickets and are expecting demand to be high.

Tickets are priced £15 for adults, £10 for Over 60s and £5 for Under 18s.

The two sides are contesting the Shankly Trophy, and if the game is level after 90 minutes, there will be a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner of the silverware named after the legendary former manager of both clubs.

It is one of five pre-season fixtures confirmed for Town, starting at Guiseley next Wednesday, July 6.

Town visit Oldham Athletic on Saturday, July 16, before the Liverpool clash.

Wagner’s side will then play Werder Bremen in Austria on Tuesday, July 26, before tackling FC Ingolstadt on July 29.
