Michael Hefele has Shrewsbury Town on the menu tonight, but who did he have round for dinner to celebrate Huddersfield Town’s win against Brentford?

The 25-year-old former Dynamo Dresden captain is already a massive favourite in Huddersfield, without even kicking a ball for the club in competitive football.

He’s made an immediate connection with supporters on social media, who like his humour and his attitude to moving to England, and Hefele would like nothing more than to show them what he can do on the pitch.

Now settled in Mirfield, however, he did not want to let the opening-day victory pass without entertaining a couple of friends from the Town squad.

He explained: “We were not really celebrating the Brentford win because it’s just one game and we have an important cup match straight away.

“That means we were training on Sunday to regenerate the team and get ready for playing against Shrewsbury, so it was just a case of relaxing on Saturday night.

“Like I say, there was nothing to celebrate because the focus is on the next match, so I just had a little meal with Ivan Paurevic and the goal-getter, Elias Kachunga, and we played a little Playstation just to wind down.

“I don’t do cooking, so we ordered in!

“Then it was off to bed by 11pm because it’s a really long season and we don’t want to spend any time on nonsense, celebrating when there’s nothing to celebrate.

“It was brilliant to win the first game in that fantastic atmosphere, and I know all the fans went home happy to enjoy with their families, but for us it was three points and we know we have to keep stepping up.”

So what does he know about Shrewsbury?

“Nothing, except what the boss has told us and shown us,” he admitted with a smile.

“The important thing is that we all know how we want to play and everyone has our Terriers Identity in his head, so we need to go and show that again.”
