TOWN’S stunning six-goal win over Wycombe was reason enough for any fan to celebrate – but even more so when you’ve travelled all the way from Finland.

On a round trip of approaching 2,500 miles Tapani Olkku was marking a decade as a Town follower as he attended the weekend’s televised game.

Tapani first started following Town having been taken to a game when an exchange student at Sheffield University and was more than happy with the result.

“I have been coming to watch the club since the Steve Bruce era and I think that has got to be one of the best games I have seen,” said Tapani.

“The trip across has been great. Town played really well and obviously I am very happy with the result.”

No longer a student, Tapani is now a journalist and was certainly packing everything into his long weekend in England.

Having arrived on Friday, he visited friends in Sheffield before taking in the Town game on Saturday lunchtime and, being a keen musician, he headed off for a gig in Brighouse.

And before he goes back to work tomorrow morning he will have also made a stop off in Dublin.

“It would have been nice to have had a bit longer to stay,” he said.

“It was a lot easier when I was a student and I could come over for a week or so, but these days I am working and I have to be back at work on Tuesday.”

However, Tapani is certainly spreading the word for Town and this time he brought Tommi Rauni with him to witness his first game.

“Tom is doing something similar to what I did with an exchange at Sheffield University, so I was showing him round really and brought him to the game,” Tapani said.

Tom certainly seemed taken by what he had seen and said: “I was just very happy to be here. I am going to be in Sheffield on exchange, so maybe I will be able to come and see Town again – sure why not?”

Tapani added: “He is the lucky mascot now after this game – so yes he is coming back!”
