Jonathan Hogg says hard work on the training ground is paying off on the pitch for Huddersfield Town.

David Wagner’s side top the Championship table going into Saturday’s big home clash with third-placed Wolves.

Town have scored key goals in the final 11 minutes of all four league games so far.

And midfielder Hogg says that’s down to fitness as well as tactics.

“We worked really hard throughout pre-season, and that’s continued,” said the 27-year-old.

“The boss gave us two days off after the Barnsley game (which Town won 2-1 through Hogg’s stoppage-time winner) and that’s unheard of.

“It’s been a chance just to recharge the batteries, because things have been intense.

“We had two, sometimes three, sessions a day during pre-season.

“And then we have had five games in two weeks, as well as working on the training ground.

“The lads know it is paying off though, and we just want to keep plugging away.”

Town have beaten Brentford and Newcastle United as well as Barnsley, and drawn against Aston Villa.

Wolves are also unbeaten, with wins over Reading and Birmingham City and draws against Rotherham United and Ipswich Town.

Hogg is keen to make the starting side against Wolves after coming off the bench against Barnsley.

“We’re all getting used to squad rotation, and it helps keep us as fresh as possible,” he explained.

“I think the boss made the right decision against Barnsley, but I’m ready to start again!”
