A HEALTHY five-point lead only five games into the season is a definite plus.

Little wonder then that League front-runners Moldgreen Conservative are all smiles.

Their 100% start to the season continued last weekend and enabled them to keep well ahead of the chasing pack.

But the leaders did not have everything their own way. Andy Senior’s side were given a tough battle and a real fright by Heywood Irish Centre before taking the points with a 2-1 win.

Walker scored to give Heywoods the lead at Almondbury but goals from Duffy and Bradley ensured the points went Moldgreen’s way.

The Walker goal was the first they have conceded in 450 minutes of football so far this season.

The win leaves them clear of reigning champions Syngenta Sports who were on top form at Lindley Liberal.

Syngenta were full value for their 4-0 victory with the Bradshaw family to the fore.

There were goals for brothers Charlie and Robert, plus one from Charlie’s son Lee, with the other goal coming from McLean.

The win moved Syngenta above Walpole who went down to a surprise 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Hepworth United.

The Walpole side were stunned by the first-half performance of the visitors from the Holme Valley, as Hepworth swept into a 4-0 lead thanks to goals from Senior, Howe, Laybourne and Vinice.

The home side did rally after the break and pulled back goals through Tolson and Goodare, but the visitors held out for a deserved win.

Another side on their travels and in good form were Uppermill.

They travelled to Farnley Tyas to meet old rivals Berry Brow Liberal and won 7-2.

The two sides have had some close encounters in recent seasons but on this occasion Uppermill were far too strong for their predominantly young opponents.

Brow did compete well for the first 30 minutes but were torn apart after the break, with their only consolation being two well-taken goals by Alan Burton late into the match.
