LAST SEASON’S runners-up, previous winners and frequent finalists Black Bull, progressed to the semi-finals of the KSL Challenge Cup.

They will meet either Britannia Sports or Helion after defeating Woodfield Park 3-1 at Storthes Hall

Bull were 3-0 up at half time, with all three goals coming via long throws from the veteran Andy Brook.

The first two were headers from Sam Haigh and the other, as a result of a goalmouth scramble, courtesy of Danny Ingham.

Both sides had many chances, but fluffed most of them (especially Bull’s Ingham – who missed a whole host of opportunities).

Park’s top player David Land (he worked tirelessly in midfield) was also able to launch long throws into Bull’s area to create problems for the home defence.

Park managed to pull one back in the second half when Andrew Costello latched on to a through-ball lobbed over the Bull defence to dispatch a powerful acute-angled strike into the far corner of the net.

Carl Ross also went close for Park when his shot crashed against the bar.

For Bull, Carl Auckland had little to do in goal, while Park keeper Tom Jennings pulled off some good saves.

Jason Thorpe prompted some useful moves down the wing and brother Matthew performed well in defence for the home side.

Bull manager Brook reported: “I am quite pleased with the result, but we should have been out of sight at half time.”

Park had key players missing – namely Paul Brodswoth, their midfield ace.

In Division I, Craven moved up to fifth after beating basement side First Huddersfield 6-1.

Scorers for Craven were man-of-the-match Tom Hampshire (3), Dave Brennan, Shane Kelly (he also missed a penalty) and Gavin Connor.

It was a typical bottom-of-the-table clash, with Craven steadily improving as the game progressed.

The game was well refereed by stand-in official Mick Dyson.

In Division II, Helion took over at the top (previous leaders HD One were without a game) after defeating lowly Walpole 5-3.

On target for the victors were Jordan Ellis (2), Dearnley, Ryan and Mick Hall.

Field Head are going well recently, but only just beat improving second-bottom Woolpack 4-3 at Royds Hall.

Dan Wright, Paul Wright, Gareth and Reece Jowett notched for Head.
